Jessore Road: A ride through hell

Had Allen Ginsberg been alive to travel down Jessore Road once again today, he would have probably been moved to pen a more mournful poem than the one he did in 1971, describing the soul-scarring scenes caused by lakhs of ravaged refugees fleeing the Bangladesh Liberation War. This is because the condition of Jessore Road - punctuated with potholes and craters - is more miserable today, than it was 42 years ago, when the American poet wrote 'September on Jessore Road'.
